Take your House Number from dull to dazzling

Does your house number have any curb appeal?  Well, mine didn’t. I’ve seen neighbors decorate their front porch for every holiday on the calendar. Don’t get me wrong, I applaud the energy for those who have decorations for earth day, arbor day, flag day, etc. but as the mother of two young energetic boys I have had to pick my battles.

I decided that I can manage the major holidays by keeping it simple and changing small decor items like pillows or flower choices for each season during this season of my life.

This fall, I thought that our house number should be included on the list of things to “spruce up” for the fall season.house numbers refinished

I looked at pumpkins, turkeys, spiders, lanterns, and hay but finally decided on a leaf as my base for our house number upgrade.

We inherited boring black and white basic numbers nailed to the side of the house.  Although I’m sure the postal service is glad for our clear street number boldly displayed for all to see, I needed something more artistic and pretty.

Like most of you, I’m busy and I really want something quick and easy that I can manage to change from season to season.

It took me 10 minute to complete this project.  My house number never looked better and here is what I did.

Step #1

I bought three glitter leaves at Joann Fabric and two dowel rods that I cut to get three equal lengths (about 16 inches)

Step #2

I used a Sharpie to write my street number on each leaf.

Step #3

Next, I wrapped floral tape around the leaves and the dowel rods.

Step #4

I wrapped the rest of the dowel rod to make sure that no wood was exposed on the dowel rod so that my numbers would blend into the foliage.

Step #5

I splurged on a big plant pot.  This is the perfect time to get a planter because they are on sale at most stores.  As I write this, I thought the one that I bought was big but now having done this project, I would have selected an even bigger pot.  My porch is large and it could have helped fill the space better.

Put the house numbers behind the planted mum or in the middle and set it out on your porch.

Step #6

Wait for neighbors to comment on your new fall look and write me a comment to tell me about it!

The leaves catch the sun just right as they wave in the breeze welcoming me as I pull up into my driveway.  It makes me happy every time I see it.

There are so many ways to update your house number.  I would love to know what you have done to set your house number apart from the rest of the block.  Please comment below and tell me your story.
