Furniture Makeover Ideas for your DIY room decor

When is a furniture makeover worth the effort?

Did you do a furniture makeover on that chair???

Yes I did!

I did a much-needed facelift on this chair.

I tackled this project with caution.

I have had this chair for 15 years.  It has been placed in every room of my house at some point.

The bones of the chair are beautiful and the shape is as Victorian as they come but I began to despise the color.  It was dated.  The gold nail trimming was worn.  The arms were wiggling.  The paint was peeling and I thought that it may have seen its last days.  It needed a makeover.

But I loved the chair and I couldn’t find another one that didn’t cost $150 or more.  Was a furniture makeover worth my effort?

First Attempt

I painted the wood of the chair with leftover paint from another project but didn’t change the leather.  The chair sat for an entire year because even though it looked better, I just couldn’t get past the mauve color that didn’t match my home decor anymore.

Second Attempt

I bought a piece of remnant fabric for $4.99 that I loved but the chair seat was not attached like the dining room table chairs that I have recovered and it was going to take more effort than I thought it was worth.  The chair sat for another year this time in the basement.

Third Attempt

After looking for a chair that would fit my DIY home office makeover, I kept coming back to my chair and thought, “If I ruin it, does it really matter?  It is sitting in the basement.  I didn’t want to spend $150 or more on a chair because I still want a couch for my office.”  My aunt had said that this was going to be an extensive makeover and she was right..BUT it was worth it.
