You either want to do a DIY project or you run as fast away from those who do. Seriously, it’s like SUSHI. You either love it or hate it.
Do you know what I mean?
I have been a vendor at several festivals around my area this Summer. I really enjoy meeting people and sharing what I know about Home Improvement, Decor, and Party Planning with people who stop by my tent.
# 1 DIY Projects for Beginners
These painted markers are a great first project. I bought a can of Chalkboard Spray Paint. I sprayed shims (that I had left over from another project) on both sides. When they dried, I printed Herb names on with a Paint Pen.
I have had a blast helping people decide what tea they would like to try, which mirror they want to purchase for their granddaughter, or what visor would look best with their golf outfit.
We have had a fun time spreading the word about the different products that we have been making at PinkToolGirl.com. You can check out our boutique for the latest french inspired reclaimed wood mason jar wall art.
Several of our projects have step by step directions that can help you get started. You can start very simple with how to update your house number with some of our ideas. Another easy DIY project to do if you are just starting out is to stencil a pillow.
I have found that painting items with chalkboard paint is a simple and fun DIY project.
Can I just make sure that we are on the same page. Chalk paint and Chalkboard Paint are two different types of paint with very different results. If you know the difference, please read on.
If this is a news flash for you, Don’t feel bad!
When I was starting out in the DIY World, I had no idea there was a difference. You have got to start somewhere! Here is your start: we have made some simpe articles about the different paint you can use for DIY Projects for Beginners.
#2 DIY Projects for Beginners
When we rehabbed our old house, we replaced the garage door. I’m not a horder but I couldn’t bear to throw away the wood. I had left brain cut it up into sections. He just looked at me and asked, “What in the world are you going to do with our old garage door?”
Honestly, I had nothing!! But I have since come up with several uses.
I taped off the edges of the garage door with FrogTape. I used the same can of Chalkboard Spray Paint (mentioned above) and sprayed the surface of the garage door. When it still wet, I peeled off the tape and let it dry the rest of the way.
I use the garage door panel as a sign to welcome guests to our home.
I use the garage door panel to display Pink Tool Girl items for sale. Because it is chalk paint, it is easily erased and reusable. It is heavy and won’t blow over in the wind. Bonus!!!
I feature several other DIY Projects for beginners.
First- Stacie from Simply Stacie offers one delicious looking lemon curd. She includes a great recipe that I am absolutely going to try for my next tea party.
Another feature is Katie from the Homespun Hydrangea who recycles a wood pallet and uses it for a garden walkway. It is too cute and with the popularity of wood pallets, I thought that this was very creative.
Additionally, Sarah from The Project Pile recycled tin for Wall Art. I love this project and I hope to use tin as a Home Decor piece in my home. She has inspired me to start looking for pieces.
Lastly, Laura from Aroma Away did a variation of an herb garden marker which I really liked.
I had to throw this feature in because it was so amazing but
WARNING: It is not for beginners…….. but it can give us all something to aspire towards.
I’ve featured Anika before from Little Free Monkeys. She’s a rockstar. I thought she just refinished the upholstery. She build the ottoman FROM SCRATCH then did the upholstery. I have an ottoman begging to be updated and now I am inspired. I’m not so sure I’m as equally inspired to build one but this is amazing!!!!!!!
I hope you enjoy these DIY Projects for Beginners and let me know what you think.
