I am always open to a family travel vacation tip. Having the right tools for any travel excursion is key.
In the following story, I will not name any individual persons to protect the innocent.
No matter how many trips I have gone on, I have found that listening to a fellow sojourner pass on sage wisdom, which in return helps my vacation, is always worth taking note.
Take Note Traveler; I have a family travel vacation nugget.
Picture this: Disney, June, 95* F…in the shade.
I know, most sane people would be at the pool or never have taken the trip in the first place.
Not us. We are travelers. We are brave. We go where no family should go at the time of day that is most willing to test your patience as a human. We came prepared with the proper traveling tools to make this adventure memorable.
In this story there are two very hot kids and their parents who are attempting to have a good time at Epcot. It happens to be the mom’s birthday. Today’s vacation will be filled with fun.
Add in to the visual image that you also have the entire extended family in tow, cousins, aunt, uncle, and grandma and you either have disaster or Best Day Ever in the happiest place on earth.
TRAVEL TOOL NEED #1:
Travel tools are essential to any good day in Disney. The mom had carefully packed for the day.
At Disney, you must fold down a stroller to get on the bus to be transported most places.
Bring or buy a small inexpensive backpack with a large mommy hook to secure your items on a stroller. It nearly eliminates eye rolls from fellow travelers without kids as you QUICKLY and efficiently get on and off the bus.
TRAVEL TOOL NEED #2
There is a point in the day when the world goes in slow motion, like in the Matrix but instead of dodging bullets, you desperately search the park map for food as you realize…
Feed them or face the unquenchable wrath of hungry kids.
I see you shaking your head in agreement… you know what I’m talking about and you’ve been there.
Master Card..yes… but for a family in an amusement park…Zip Lock Bags. Don’t leave home without them.
Prior to entering a park, have a zip lock bag ready with quick food favorites (that can withstand extreme heat) and companion drink to feed the hungry while you search for real food that has a manageable line.
Examples are: Graham Crackers, Raisins, Apples, Goldfish, Juice Box, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches
Although simple, this plastic bag is a versatile tool that can save the day and also be used for later travel needs such as wet clothes or protecting the phone on water rides.
TRAVEL TOOL NEED #3
My kids are learning but have not mastered the art of not asking for every toy that they repeatedly see while exiting any ride at the park.
I did promise to reward their good behavior with some cool light up toy that was a must-have this season.
I bought the toy early in the day and yes although it may go against conventional wisdom I had a plan. I attached a small carabiner to the light wand and hooked it to the boys belt loop. This toy kept us entertained while waiting in line for rides, waiting for meals, and waiting for the evening light show that we never did see because we fell asleep.
The wonderful part was that we didn’t lose the toy. It was neatly fastened to the boys shorts and also served a hat holder when night came. Think of it as The Toddler Tool Belt for Travel.
I hope that you have fun with your family while traveling and find the right tool for each job. Enjoy!!
