Hi!, I’m Sandy. I’m delighted to meet you.
After my son got locked in our bathroom and I could not find a screwdriver in the house, I knew I needed my own set of tools. I needed to know where they were when another emergency arose.
I’m raising boys so I figure in due time another emergency needing tools will arise.
My husband, who always does his research, and who never wanted to have another phone call like the one he received as I frantically looked for a screw driver in his workshop, found a tool box that fits me perfectly and surprised me with this wonderful gift.
My very own pink tool box was delivered Christmas day.
It was my favorite gift.
My boys were excited that mommy was very happy about the pretty tool box they had wrapped for me.
I was excited to have my own tool box and it was pink……that was the icing on the cake.
When we decided to move into a 115 year-old Victorian duplex and convert it into a single family home, I knew my pink tools were about to get busy so I dubbed myself the Pink Tool Girl and got to work and started a blog to let family members see our progress.
I also discovered that my outlet to journal the process was very helpful to others so I started to share with more pictures and enthusiasm about what I was learning through a renovation, restoration, and decoration of an older home. I had an audience again!
You see…..I’m a former music and theater teacher. For 15 years, I taught music and built sets for musicals. Actually, my degree is in directing so I directed my dad and a few of my colleagues (who would drag their tools to rehearsals) and I participated in building sets. I learned a great deal during those years about having the right tool for the job.
Our current rehab is a huge project which is going to take us months to complete but I am reminded of the smaller daily tasks that need the proper tools. This journey has opened my eyes to the many tools I use throughout the day to complete projects around the house. I no longer have my music classroom. Instead, I upgraded to two active boys who keep me incredibly busy.
Our crazy renovation is for the benefit of our family. We love to travel, grill, decorate, do DIY projects, garden, paint, and play sports, all which need specific tools to get the job done well. Our old house was a two bedroom/one bathroom with a small backyard. The space constrictions didn’t allow us to open our home to visitors very frequently because there just wasn’t space for more than four people.
We feel that although there is a great deal of work ahead of us, this house is a direct blessing from God. The extra space both outside and inside has allowed us to entertain and host people in our homes which is what we delight in as a family. Since we moved in, we have had to play catch up, inviting different groups of friends as often as possible.
The extra rooms in this house have also provided me with ample opportunity to stretch my decorating skills. My creativity has been stretched and I’ve become incredibly thrifty with my time and efforts as I have tackled each room. My vision is to keep each space inviting, practical, elegant, and welcoming to anyone who comes into our home while sticking to our budget.
My goal and passion is that you will be blessed by sharing a portion of your day with me and laugh at some of my stories, learn from my experiences, get inspired with new decorating ideas, and ultimately find the right tools for the job that has you excited to tackle.
